How many hours a day of light do I need to justify solar?

I am looking to put solar on my home. I have a south facing roof but it is shaded by trees until 11 am for most of the year. How many hours of the day do I need to have direct sunlight to consider buying solar?

Hey kfav, the most productive hours for solar energy creation are between the hours of noon and three in the afternoon. If you trees stop blocking sunlight to your solar panels by eleven in the morning, you should still have good energy production.

...and it answered my question about the software update too!
