I recently took out the boiler service plan with SP and I'm so happy that I did. For peace of mind and when you look at the cost of a repair (and parts) it certainly makes financial sense. Anyway, my boiler is quite old, and as part of the service, an engineer performed a first Annual Service/Safety check and identified some parts that needed replacing right away to extend the life of my boiler. No problems at all since, and in fact, seems to be running a bit quieter - bonus 
Highly recommend if you are thinking about it.
